More than sixty people have been killed after FlyDubai Boeing 737crushed and bursted into flames as it was landing in Rostov-on -Don air port southern Russia.
The plane is said to have been making it's second attempt to land in bad weather before it missed the run way and crashed leaving debris scattered in the area.
According to the airline officials who confirmed the crush posted on their facebook page "Fly Dubai regrets to confirm that fight FZ981 crushed on landing".
The accident happened at 0050 GMT and the plane is said to have left from Dubai at 1820 GMT. In a statement posted on the airline's website FlyDubai said "we are putting our emergency response in place and we will be working closely with all authorities involved , we will share as much information as possible just as soon as we can and we will provide updates on regular basis.
Russian investigators also confirmed that all the 62 people on board were killed. Reports indicated that there were 55 passengers and seven crew members who all perished. The passengers were all Russian Nationals including four children.
It took Russian authorities more than an hour to get the blaze in control said the emergency ministry. More than 500 rescuer personnel and 60 vehicles were dispatched to the crash site. "The plane skimmed the ground and broke into several pieces of which some were found about 1.5 km away from the crush site" said an investigator.
The plane had been seen circling the area trying to land for more than two hours due too bad weather before it went download. Other flights had been diverted to Krasnodar airport 300 km south of Rostov-on-Don .
"The weather conditions were terrible and we could feel the plane shaking " one of the passengers on the diverted planes said.
According to Russian investigators a strong wind warning had been issued and it had been raining heavily at the time of the crush, "hence a possible negligence by the pilot was among the cause of the crush" said Jeanna Terekhova an advisor to Russian transport ministry.
The government owned FlyDubai is a sister firm to fly Emirates and was established in March 2008.
