End of the road: Nakumatt kicked out of Nyali
Mombasa County : It was a big show of embarrassment as former retail giant Nakumatt was being evicted from City Mall in Nyali, Mombasa county.
The dwindling retailer which was once East Africa's giant retailer was kicked out of the Nyali-based premises following a court order issued on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at the Mombasa Law Courts.
It was accused of defaulting a three months' rent amounting up to Sh27.8 million.
Auctioneers threw out goods from the premises prompting some residents to start looting.
Nakumatt has faced cases of embarrassment after being kicked out of various branches over rent arrears, including in regional outlets in Uganda and Tanzania.
Her two sons had built their homes away from their parent's home and made it difficult to detect the incident immediately," he said. Patrick Obilo, the deceased Mama Suslia Olang'o is said to have met her untimely death when the house which had become weak, collapsed following the heavy rains which was accompanied by a windstorm.
The administrator, who spoke to The Standard on phone, stated that the granny’s body was found covered under the fallen wall of that house after she is suspected to have sustained injuries which led to her instant death. Mr Obilo, who revealed that the elderly woman had been staying alone in that house.
