The staff and management of Kenya commercial bank Kisii branch received a shock of the year after one of their clients hired auctioneers to assist his recover unpaid dues of up to 5 million Kenya shillings.
The incident drew a huge crowd of people who came to witness what was going no. The staff and branch managers watched helplessly as the hired youths hurriedly emptied the banking hall.
The situation became even worse when the auctioneer called the police to offer security just in case violence erupts. The incident took place at around 10 am when the auctioneer, hired youths and police officers stormed the banking hall , ordering customers to walk out as they carried whatever they can a cross.
What astonished many is the fact that the bank had been offering credit facilities to the public but was now not able to pay one of its clients to a tune of 5 million.
According to one of the KCB staff name with held the was a misunderstanding between the bank and client, "The bank had agreed to pay this client but unfortunately he was not patient enough to wait" he said.
He added that " We were amazed to see police officers and more than five young men storm the banking hall without giving us any notice".
According to the auctioneer name with held "We are just implementing court orders and nothing else let KCB management pay our client and we shall return these furniture plus any other things we have taken in custody"
It took the branch manager and other top senior officials three hours to negotiate with the auctioneer. Customers were referred to other KCB branches within Kisii town.
"This is a big embarrassment to a prestigious bank like KCB" exclaimed one of the clients who had been reffed to another branch.
The branch management refused to speak to our reporters about the incident saying that they will issue a statement concerning the mater soon but apologized to its clients for the disturbances caused.
