Orengo, Nyando MP Fred
Outa and Suna East’s Junet Mohamed gave Uhuru one week release the send-off
packages of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) bosses. “There
is a plot by President Uhuru Kenyatta to block recruitment of new
commissioners. Should he fail to release the funds, we shall fight the war we
know best,” said Siaya Senator James Orengo
They indicated that, if
the government failed to do so, they would hold protests to push it to commit
itself to the process. The nine IEBC
commissioners had agreed to quit before their terms end if they were given a
“dignified” send-off.
National Assembly
Speaker Justin Muturi also blamed the Jubilee administration for delaying the
process. Muturi said the
National Treasury had not made any commitment to pay the KSh 164 million exit
package. “There are no offers
from Treasury coupled with the loud silence by the Salaries and Remuneration
Commission to facilitate execution of this agreement,” said Muturi as
quoted by the paper. (Tuko)
