Former Churchill comedian Geoffrey Muikunu aka Wagithomo has
been branded “Con- Comedian” . This came after NTV investigative journalist
Denise Okari busted him.
Wagithomo and his company Dream cast productions have been
using a copy righted name of a popular British International media content
company “Got Talent” to fraud innocent Kenyans.
The comedian and his accomplices used social Media platform
to lure unsuspecting artists promising them that they will appear on a show to
be aired on NTV. The con-comedian did not just con talented youths but also
business owners , who were promised that their businesses would be mentioned by
more than 20 comedians on Churchill show.
One business lady Emelyne Abuko said “ I was told 20
comedians will promote my business on Churchill show if I buy five VIP tickets in an upcoming
comedy award show”.
NTV using it’s
investigative journalist Denise Okari and with the help of police officers
managed to unearth the multi-million fraud that had been going on. More than 30
Kenyans had been conned by Wagithomo.
NTV denied being involved with dream cast production and its
operations and had no contract with them. In a statement released by NTV assistant
productions Manager Mercelline Maroma said “ As NTV we don’t have a show called
Kenya got talent, we do not have any contract with Dreamcast productions and we
have not contracted anyone to do auditions on our behalf, even if we do have
such a coming show we will communicate through our official social media page,
Newspaper and Tv”.
The Churchill show directors also distanced themselves from
“con-comedian” Wagithomo by posting a
statement “ There was no such an event at Nyayo stadium this is so sad and
unfortunate”.
In a statement released by laugh industry producers of
Churchill show said, “Laugh industry in a shocking way has learnt of some
activities of one of the members of the former Wagithomo’s comedians that
featured within our Churchill show TV programe, otherwise known as Mr. Geoffrey
Muikunu, that among other misdemeanors he has been using NTV and Churchill show
brands to collect money with false promises to gullible members of public, we
strongly condemn the act and in no way do we neither condone such nor are we
associated with either on advisory level or actual involvement of this deed,
nor has the show been involved in such activities.
Wagithomo and his accomplice were arrested and will be
reined in court to answer charges of obtaining money by fraudulent manner
and using names of popular individuals
to defraud the public,
