Former First Lady Lucy
Kibaki was admitted to the Nairobi Hospital Intensive Care Unit after falling
ill on Friday morning.
Sources said Lucy, wife
of former president Mwai Kibaki, fell ill at her home in Muthaiga, Nairobi.
Lucy was taken to
Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital for “emergency care” at 4am before she was
transferred to Nairobi Hospital.
She arrived at the
hospital in an ambulance escorted by two government vehicles at around 5am.
“It is true that the
wife of the former president is here. In fact, she has been taken to the ICU,”
a source at the hospital told the Star on phone on Friday.
Kibaki was this
afternoon seen at the hospital.
The source said Lucy,
who has been missing from the public radar since 2010, had difficulty in
breathing. There has been speculation on her whereabouts and health condition
since 2012.
In 2014, Lucy was
rushed to the hospital after reportedly complaining of chest pains. She was
taken to hospital by family members and admitted in St Teresa’s Ward.
Lucy kept an
“uncharacteristically low profile” and did not attend any public functions
during part of her time as First Lady. The last public
function that she attended was the ushering in of the new constitution at Uhuru
Park, during which she took part in a lively and energetic jig.
